The Heather Garden in Gommern

The heather garden is a typical natural heath landscape. In the heather garden, the special charm of this type of landscape, the vastness, the quiet and the harmony can also be experienced and felt.

     The enclosure is to be found
     on the southeast outskirts of
     the town on the site of the
     former animal bodies
     recycling plant. The heather
     had already occurred
     naturally in the region and
     therefore it was the perfect
     place to lay out the heather
     garden. The abundance of
     the types and sorts of herbs

with their numerous growth forms makes for an impressive range of plants all year long. They even display colour during the cold season. The blossoms and dense vegetation offer food and cover to small animals and to insects. Even ground breading birds are able to place their nest in the undergrowth. Other bird kinds search for nesting possibilities in the dense pin woods and bushes.
