The Churches of Gommern
The Evangelic Church „St. Trinitatis“
The evangelic church „St. Trinitatis“ is
Gommern’s oldest church and is known
to be of Roman origin. It was built around
1200 as the first fixed church in Gommern.
The remains are presumably still preserved
in parts of the foundation wall.
The Catholic church „The Heart of
Jesus“ – „Herz Jesu“
After the turning of the first sod on the
01.04.1902 the foundation and the
base was constructed of Gommern
quartzite. On the 27.04.1902 the
foundation stone of the church was
laid. The striking neo-gothic cross
style church is made of red brick
and was made available for service
and consecrated on 09.07.1903 by
Bishop Wilhelm Schneider.
The Neo-apostolic Church
The new apostolic church is modestly b
furnished and makes a bright and
friendly impression. This church’s
community in Gommern (as well as
Pretzien and Leitzkau) consists of
120 members and they have their
own choir (12 members).
